Background
Statistics and Actuarial Science Society SS HKU (香港大學理學會 統計及精算學會) was first founded as Statistics Society in 1969. It was renamed as Statistics and Actuarial Science Society in 1999 with the establishment of the BSc(ActuarSc) Programme.
The Society is the official student body representing the Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science. It is also one of the academic societies affiliated to Science Society HKU.
The purposes of the Society include:
To encourage the study of the Statistics and Actuarial Science and the application of statistical and actuarial techniques.
To promote the understanding and general welfare among members of the Society.
To secure complete organization and unity within the Society.
To maintain good relationship between staff and students.
Objectives
The Executive Committee of Session 2024-2025 has the following objectives:

To enhance Members’ understanding towards Statistical, Actuarial Science, and Artificial Intelligence.

Membership
There are three types of membership for the Society.
All Members are entitled to use the facilities and welfare provided by the Society and to attend the functions, activities and general meetings arranged by the Society.

| Students of the University of Hong Kong | All graduates of the University of Hong Kong | Staff members of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science |
| Have taken approved courses offered by the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science or; | Any non-graduates of the University of Hong Kong not qualified as a full member of the Society | Automatically eligible and registered |
| Have been admitted to Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science | - | - |
Voting rights, nomination for election and eligibility for office in the Executive Committee are restricted to the Full Members of the Society.
Students of the University of Hong Kong with expired Full Membership and anyone with expired Associate Membership not being eligible for Full Membership may renew their Full Membership and Associate Membership respectively upon registration and payment of a nominal fee of HK$40 per year, for a maximum renewal period of 10 years.
